Elderson Uwa Echiéjilé will
play no more part in the Super Eagles quest in Brazil as he has failed to
recover fully from his hamstring injury suffered against Scotland. Coach
Stephen Keshi has recalled CHAN’s MVP, Ejike Uzoenyi to take the place of the
defender.
Elderson was a member of the
Nigerian U-20 team at the 2007 World Cup in Canada, playing five matches and
scoring once. Having made his debuts for the senior side in 2009, he was picked
for the following year’s FIFA World Cup in South Africa, appearing in two group
stage matches in an eventual group stage exit.
Elderson was called up to Nigeria’s
23-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. Also that year he was selected
for the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, scoring in the group stage opener
against Tahiti.
Christantus Ejike Uzoenyi, plays for
Enugu Rangers. He was a member of Nigeria’s squad for the 2014 African
Nations Championship and was selected the most valuable player of the
tournament.
