Military Confirms Intensive Battle to Repel Terrorist Advance in Damaturu

The Nigerian military has confirmed a heavy exchange of fire between the federal forces and Boko Haram terrorists for the control of Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, in the North Eastern part of the country.

However, there are indications that contrary to an earlier report, the fighting for the soul of Damaturu may still be ongoing.


"We are still under fire," Yobe police said, according to a tweet by @PremiumTimesng this.evening.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in its twitter account announced that there was a combined ground and aerial assault to repel the advancing terrorists, who invaded the town in the early hours of Monday.

According to the statement, "The troops backed by the Air Force, are carefully engaging terrorists who attacked the town in the early hours of monday".

The military noted that the " approach is to secure the civilian population while repelling or apprehending the terrorists".

The real battle situation in Damaturu could not be confirmed as at the time of this report as the military promised to provide further details.
